Born in Mifflintown, he was the son of the late Erasmus P. and Mary E. Wert Shelley. He moved to Lancaster County in 1935 to work with his sister and brother-in-law in the White Horse Store. He was a member of Hershey Mennonite Church in Kinzers, where, he taught Bible and Sunday school classes for many years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Theodore E. of Montoursville. Three daughters, Janice K, wife of Bruce Grace, of Lancaster, Joyce S., wife of H. Louis Chance, of West Grove, and Edith M., wife of Tony Folker, of New Holland; a sister, Mary E., wife of Leory Hershey of Cochranville; and ten grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, July 17 at Hershey Mennonite Church. Interment was in Hershey Mennonite Cemetery.

Mr. Strawser enlisted and served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was self-employed in plumbing and heating and masonry; due to ill health, Mr. Strawser was forced to an early retirement. He also owned and operated a gun shop at his residence, as he was a licensed gunsmith for over 25 years. Mr. Strawser was a member of Richfield Mennonite Church, where he was a member of the men's Sunday school class. He was a member of Richfield Fire Co. and Ambulance League. He was a former member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Strawser is survived by three daughters, Ethel N. Strawser, Richfield, PA; Linda L. Strawser, Richfield, PA and Delores O. Strawser, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA; three brothers, Paul E. Strawser, McAlisterville, PA; Sherman L. Strawser, Millerstown, PA; and Rev. James Strawser, Richfield, PA; eight grandchildren; and three greatgrandsons.
Mr. Strawser was preceded in death by one son, Sidney H. Strawser, in infancy; one granddaughter, Lisa Strawser; three brothers, John, S. Nestor and Earl; and two sisters, Ellen Graybill and Ruth Hepner.
The funeral service was conducted December 26, 1995 from Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastor Jerry R. O'Connell officiating. Burial was made in Richfield Union Cemetery, with military honors performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5863, Mifflintown. Funeral arrangements were made by the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA.
